Lift Camp 09 Tuesday Wrap UP

Tuesday can be described in one word…HOT.  Your kids can be described as INCREDIBLE.  Not one problem with any student.  They were phenomenal during the serving project.  They were able to get 3 hours worth of work done in 1 hour.  Lady has never seen a group like ours. (If she only knew).  Services have been good, hot.  God is starting to work in their hearts and you can see certain things change.  Today is all about them having fun during the free time.  Looking forward to it.

None of your kids wanted to say anything to you on this blog.  Well see about tomorrow.

Well have more tomorrow morning.

Monday Wrap UP

Due to the very limited availability I have with Internet there will be no videos each night but each morning I can update you on the day before.  Yesterday we arrived with no problems and got checked into our 4 star dorm.  It is extremely nice, in fact my room froze to death last night it was so cold.

The production was done very well and Aaron Cavin did a good job speaking.  Monday’s are always tough but the energy was good.  Worship was awesome even though I still love our praise band.

They did bowling for a late night activity and it was shorter than normal as they got lost but all was good.  Dinner was chicken nuggets (I think) and french fries…enough said.  Overall the attitude is great and they are having a good time.  We are heading to morning fun and we are working in the food kitchen today as a group.  Pray for the heat it’s supposed to be 92 here today and that usually takes a toll on the kids.

Keep following my updates on facebook and twitter.

Parents, friends and family check back here regularly for updates each night (probably late) about the days activities at camp. My goal is to get a video of pictures that are happening each day at camp as well as video shots from throughout the day.  Anything written will be under the blog tag and all video will be on the main tab located under the feature video.  I will do my best we have 47 total with leaders and students.

You can also follow me on Twitter for constant updates of the days adventures.

If your on facebook you can follow me or follow the Fellowship Student Ministry group page.

One Prayer Wrap Up

Picture 3

Today we finished up our One Prayer series with great momentum as eleven people crossed over from death to life.  I love the fact that we got to hear from some of the greatest communicators in the local church.  I love the fact that through video and technology God was still able to speak.  I love that through the One Prayer experience we came together with thousands of churches around the world to worship an incredible God.  One Prayer is not just a filler of space but a strategic partnership with the local church to realize that although we may differ in our preferences we are all still made to worship God.

I have to give a shout out to one of my friends who also is a volunteer staff member for Fellowship and his name is Greg Davis who has a blog called Technically Speaking.  He says that he is passionate about helping the local church take advantage of the power of technology and it is evident in everything he touches.  From a redesign with Ben on the Fellowship website to up-keeping of all of our blogs he does so without anything being asked in return.  He is also responsible for all of us going to Google docs & mail which almost broke our friendship :) .  He continues to be innovative in how we leverage technology and I am so thankful that he knows how to do all this stuff because I am completely clueless.

As a bonus I get to have his wife Mary on youth staff who heads up our outreach with teenagers to Urban Promise and other local stuff.  This family has poured into my life and has been a catalyst for me stretching myself in so many areas of my life especially leadership.

Thanks Mary for serving with me and pouring your life into teenagers by being passionate about our students serving and for allowing Greg to help redefine church with technology.  Thanks Greg for all the time you put into the behind the scenes work that goes on at Fellowship that goes unnoticed.  Thanks for all the time you spend on making this blog innovative and creative.

Chance

artwork_images_761_84973_george-segalYou could walk by and say nothing.  You could pretend you don’t even see him.  After all he does look different.  Doesn’t look like the sort of person that you would hang out with.  You really don’t have the time.  Your tired.  It was a very long day.

OR

You could stop and say hi.  You could acknowledge that you see him.  Who cares if he looks different?  You don’t need to hang out with him.  It would only take a couple minutes.  Don’t be lazy.  Every day is a long day.

Ever make excuses about why you can’t do something? I do all the time.  By chance or by God’s arrangement I met a 25 year old graduate of Garnet Valley who didn’t know who I was or what I did and asked me this question, “Do you have a minute?” Amazing how such a simple question can stir up so many responses in my head.  I reluctantly said yes and for the next 45 minutes I listed to a 25 year share about his life, his brokenness, his concerns and his need for God.  Although he wasn’t ready to give his life to Christ at that moment he was ready to share his heart.

Are we too busy to listen?  Are we too busy making excuses to really care about others?  I get that way and I’m sure you do as well but last night gave me a chance to share about God’s love and see a guy who has a lot of reasons to be proud, humble himself before a complete stranger and admit he can’t do it on his own and that he needs a relationship with God.

I look forward to seeing my new friend on Sunday as he continues to search for the truth and for answers.  I look forward to it because I reluctantly said yes to the question, “Do you have a minute?”

Servolution

servolution-lcd

I am reading a book called Servolution by Dino Rizzo and literally the first page got my attention which is not easy to do with my whole ADD (hey look a butterfly), what was I saying? The idea of the book is starting a revolution through serving. Serving others with no expectations of receiving anything in return. Here is a snippet from the book:

“This book is about revolution. But this is a different kind of revolution-not fueled by anger, violence, and revolt but one of compassion, love and service. This revolution has a clear mission to answer the cries of the poor, the hurting, and the forgotten and is made up of revolutionaries willing to lay down their lives to reach out to people in their cities, in their nations, and throughout the world. This is a revolution aimed at initiating change, but not by overthrowing a government; this change comes by bringing healing to a hurting world and by loving people to Christ. We call it servolution: a significant change in the course of history sparked by simple acts of kindness.”

I know for a fact that I can become a lot better in this area and I wonder could you? If so, what? What can be done to reach this community and serve this community? What ideas do you have? I have heard from some and they are amazing and I am sure I will get a chance to share those later.
