25 Days Of Christmas_Day 7

10What kind of Christmas traditions do you have?  Growing up we had several traditions, some were great and some were not so great to put it lightly.  Loved Christmas Eve because we opened up all our presents, there is something about doing it at night with the tree lit that just seemed magical.  We opened the small gifts from “Santa” in the morning.  Christmas Eve we would have tons of desserts and finger foods and there always seemed to be so much food.  On Christmas day we would have either turkey and ham and have all the fixings.  On the night before Christmas Eve we would drive around looking at Christmas lights.  I posted yesterday how I loved to see everything lit up and shining.  Those drives were always interesting and came with their own set of issues but either way it was a tradition that I enjoyed.

How about you?  When do you shop?  Do you do a real tree or a fake tree?  Do you have any special meals?  When do you open presents?  Any special story times?  When does all your shopping take place?  I would love to hear about your traditions and childhood Christmas memories.

My favorite memory about Christmas was the Santa plate that he would leave for us Christmas morning. On Christmas Eve, my brother and I would leave out a glass of milk & cookies for Santa, and would put them on a paper plate, along w/ carrots for his reindeer (they need to eat too!!) We would walk into the living room on Christmas morning and the milk was half gone, still some cookie crumbs left on the plate and the carrots were chewed on. Santa would also leave us a drawing and a special note on the paper plate. We looked forward to it every year – even posed for the camera w/ the plate picture he left for us. Later my parents told us my Dad was the one who drew on the plate (man could he draw, and Santa got all the credit all those years!) and then they would have our rabbits chew on the carrots to make it look like the reindeer did!! I smile from ear to ear just thinking about how my parents went all out to make that memory so special for us, something I’ll never forget and can’t WAIT to pass onto Noah (already asked my Dad to draw the plate, like the good old days!)
