Tree Toppers. I had no idea the emotional attachement that people had with their tree toppers. I had no clue that some people feel that their tree toppers identify them as an individual. For our house we have a simple little gold star which brings back painful memories of elementary school and the “red” star I would get when all the other kids got gold stars. That is for another day and another post, my counselor says I’m not ready to talk about it.
Here are some tree toppers that I found that apparently “identify” people and who they are.
So I ask you the question, what do you put on your tree?

There are some decorations when you seem them they almost take your breathe away because they are incredible and you appreciate the time and effort that went into the design. Then there are those that when you look at them they take your breathe away because they are incredible in a different way and you wonder, why would they do that? Or why would someone put that much time and effort into that design?
How much is too much? Have you cut back because of the economy? Do you go out looking for lights that are out at night?

Who doesn’t love a good nativity scene? The fun of placing baby Jesus in the manger with Joseph and Mary. Then comes the awkward attempt to fit in 3 wise men, 2 shepherds, 3 sheep, 2 goats, 1 cow, 2 chickens, 1 rooster, 3 gifts and the star. After all you don’t want to leave out any people in case you have a chance to share the Christmas story with someone who hasn’t heard it yet. I don’t mean to make fun of the Christmas story because it is the center focus of Christmas and is all about a relationship with Christ, however, there are some seriously messed up nativity scenes out there as you will see down below.
Found some of these on a blog that I can’t remember otherwise I would give credit to them for doing a lot of this work.
What is the best and worst nativity you have seen? Do you put up a nativity scene each year?

Everybody has different opinions about parties. Some love the interaction while others dread having to go through the process. We had our UNITED Nerdy Christmas party as students came dressed as nerds and some even came dressed as me. There was awesome karaoke Christmas songs and a fear factor challenge where we had 3 students puke with our cricket jello. Gift exchange and lots of food. Overall it was a great night as 6 students gave their life to Christ at the end understanding what the true gift of Christmas is, which is a relationship with God.
So my question is, do you like Christmas parties?

Here is a picture of last year’s family Christmas card…somewhere on it was written Merry Christmas from the Geigers.
Family pictures for the yearly Christmas card. If you know me you know exactly where this is headed. What a treasured memory to keep for years and years and years to come. Speaking of years doesn’t it feel like it takes years to get the “perfect” picture. Two cameras and over a hundred shots to get the perfect picture. Pretty sure I heard Lady Gaga in the background singing Paparazzi. Either way it has become a family tradition that I have little to NO say in.
I will say however that I enjoy looking back and seeing the boys and how they grow up.
What is your family photo experience like? Do you make your own cards each year?

This post is taken directly from Twitip.com. I think this is hilarious and fun for those of you who Twitter.
Spread Christmas Cheer, ‘Naughty or Nice’ Twitter App
Digital creative agency Collective has unveiled their ‘Naughty or nNce’ Twitter-driven app, featuring their very own Collective Santa. Users can find out whether they’ve made it onto Santa’s Naughty or Nice List before discovering what they deserve in return.

Visitors enter their Twitter username to wake Santa from his snooze. They can then watch as Santa checks their tweets for various naughty or nice key words while he boogies to the music. Once the results are in, Santa responds by telling the user if they are naughty or nice and what they deserve this Christmas (anything from a “ruddy good talking to” to “a little donkey”).

If the user has been naughty, they’ll be encouraged to add some Christmas cheer to their tweets and try again.
Results are shared on Collective Santa’s Twitter page and can also be shared on the user’s Twitter or other social networking pages. The user can also choose to add a new naughty or nice profile picture to show all their followers.
In case your wondering, Santa says I am nice and deserve the pipes of peace. Not sure what that means but I am nice this year.

Some people wonder what in the world does a staff do during preparation for our Christmas services? That is a valid question. Below is just a clip of what a day in the life of some staff members of Fellowship Church look like.

Decorations can be so much fun to put up at Christmas and they can also cause someone to have a near nervous breakdown. I personally like to put up everything right after Thanksgiving so I can really enjoy it for about 6 weeks as we take down around New Years Day. The problem is I never put them away in such a manner that it is easy to take back out and put up the next year. I usually will spend an hour finding everything and another hour dealing with lights. Another hour is spent putting the hooks on the ornaments and another hour is spent unraveling the green stuff. An hour or two is spent adjusting the branches on our fake tree but that is better than Jess having to hold the tree up for 2 hours a couple years ago because it fell over and she was pregnant and she had to pee. Oh the memories.
What are some of your holiday decoration memories? Any horror stories? Hospital room visits?
Below is a picture of a guys holiday decorations at his house. Read the story behind it, very funny.

“Good news is that I truly out did myself this year with my Christmas decorations. The bad news is that I had to take him down after 2 days. I had more people come screaming up to my house than ever.Great stories. But two things made me take it down.
First, the cops advised me that it would cause traffic accidents as they almost wrecked when they drove by.
Second, a 55 year old lady grabbed the 75 pound ladder almost killed herself putting it against my house and didn’t realize it was fake until she climbed to the top (she was not happy). By the way, she was one of many people who attempted to do that. My yard couldn’t take it either. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up my yard.”

Even though he apparently is evil and if you rearrange the letters of his name they spell Satan, I have a love for Santa Clause. There is something magical and fun about the concept of Santa. I found out the hard way as a child and we will leave that alone because we don’t know who may read this blog. I’m sure my market share of 4-8 year olds is as anticipated very large. The concept of Santa and the North pole, elves and reindeer just seems to add an element of fun. Yes I know there is a degree of lying to children around the world about the concept, but in my mind I can totally justify that or at the very least buy them off with a gift to end the pain of covering up the truth. So many great Christmas movies that involve Santa, and even more great one-liners like from the movie Elf. Found a link to a very funny site called Sketchy Santas. A funny site on the joys of meeting Santa and the “awkwardness” that comes from that.
What was your favorite Santa moment growing up?

What kind of Christmas traditions do you have? Growing up we had several traditions, some were great and some were not so great to put it lightly. Loved Christmas Eve because we opened up all our presents, there is something about doing it at night with the tree lit that just seemed magical. We opened the small gifts from “Santa” in the morning. Christmas Eve we would have tons of desserts and finger foods and there always seemed to be so much food. On Christmas day we would have either turkey and ham and have all the fixings. On the night before Christmas Eve we would drive around looking at Christmas lights. I posted yesterday how I loved to see everything lit up and shining. Those drives were always interesting and came with their own set of issues but either way it was a tradition that I enjoyed.
How about you? When do you shop? Do you do a real tree or a fake tree? Do you have any special meals? When do you open presents? Any special story times? When does all your shopping take place? I would love to hear about your traditions and childhood Christmas memories.
